Dogs Like Pool Floats, Too

It’s fun for us humans to relax on a float in the pool. but (some) dogs love it, too.

Since the puppy claws will puncture lots of regular people floats, it’s important to get dog floats. There are lots of them available on Amazon.

I’ve tried some inflatable floats and my dogs weren’t crazy about them. They preferred the pool floats that were mostly mesh with an inflatable rim around them.

The one my pups liked the most was the SwimWays Spring Float Paddle Paws Dog Pool Float. This float comes in a small and large version, and I got large (65 pounds and up) since one of my pool dogs is a German Shepherd Dog.

Some dog floats can be pricey, but the lower-end floats I initially got were poor quality and not very durable.

Taking Pool Selfies with an iPhone

Underwater photography with an iPhone is easy, unique, and fun – a nice, wet break from all of those other selfies you’ve taken and posted.

There is no need to get an underwater camera these days. iPhones can take great underwater photos as long as you provide protection for them.

I’d recommend the AICase universal waterproof underwater photography housing to keep your phone safe. After all, recent iPhones are water-resistant, but that’s different from waterproof.

The AICase will waterproof your phone as deep as 50 feet down. It can be used with a tripod, and it is compatible with most iPhone models.

Whether you are taking an underwater selfie or somebody else is taking an underwater photo of you, you’ll want to get the settings, such as selfie mode or time delay, ready before getting wet.

It’s also good to stay in pretty shallow water for the natural light. If the light is dim, shoot towards the surface of the water.

Please note that your iPhone touch screen won’t work underwater. So, you’ll have to use your volume button as a shutter.

Otherwise, it’s similar to taking pictures on land.

City of Austin: Keep Pets Away from Lady Bird Lake

The City of Austin has urged dog owners to continue to keep their dogs away from Lady Bird lake due to potential toxins in algae.

This is similar to 2019 and 2020 when a harmful algae bloom occurred at Lady Bird Lake, which sickened and killed several dogs.

Low levels of a neurotoxin have been found in two samples of algae near Red Bud Isle. However, the toxin was not found in any of the water samples or in other algae samples. Additionally, the sampling has shown that much of the algae in other parts of Lady Bird Lake are presently harmless varieties.

Samples of water and algae were taken from eight locations on Lady Bird Lake. Additional samples were taken at the Walsh Boat Ramp on Lake Austin and downstream of Longhorn Dam.

Based on these test results, the toxin appears to be localized at this time to the algae near Red Bud Isle, and Red Bud Isle remains closed. Signs were placed on Red Bud Isle Sunday evening to warn pet owners.
